In torrential
rain and a waterlogged pitch the Rams can feel aggrieved not to
have come away from this encounter with at least a point after
putting on a battling performance against their Yorkshire
opponents.Both sides
adapted extremely well considering the poor playing conditions
and each side created many chances throughout the game but it
was Silsden who scored twice to take the points back to Cougar
Park.
The first half ended goalless
but Silsden could count themselves unlucky not to have been in
the lead after striking the post and bar. Although that
may sound like Silsden dominated the opening 45 minutes, the
Rams created several good chances to have scored themselves.
Rob Crank, on loan from Rochdale
had two good opportunities but his final shots where easily
scooped by by Foulger in the Silsden goal.
Rams assistant manager Iain
McLellan was unlucky with one header from a Ramsbottom freekick
when he out jumped his marker but his headed shot went high over
the bar.
At the other end, Rams keeper
John Ogden did well to prevent Silsden taking the lead on a
couple of occasions but he could do nothing when one shot
cannoned off the bar and then minutes later another shot hit the
foot of the post.
The second half saw more chances
falling to both sides but it was Silsden who took the lead in
the 57th minute when McNulty picked up a loose ball midway in
the Rams half and after a surging run and with no Rams player
making any sort of challenge he unleashed a swerving shot that
somehow deceived Ogden in goal and the ball found its way into
the net.
Within minutes of the goal being
scored, Rams number eight, Matty Kay was unlucky when his 25
yard shot came back off the bar with the keeper beaten and
almost immediately another shot by Vaughan was pushed onto the
bar by Foulger and out for a corner kick.
Silsden created more chances as
the Rams moved up field trying to find an equaliser and they
went two-goals up when in the 78th minute a poor pass was picked
up by the Silsden midfield and with King in acres of space he
was picked out by his team mates and he simply placed the ball
under Ogden's body.
Ogden was the busier of the two
keepers in the final minutes and he did well to push a shot away
to prevent another goal being scored which would have been even harshy on the Rams as they produced another good display but
without any rewards for their endevours.
Silsden perhaps shaded the game
with the number of chances created but the Rams did play well
enough to sneak a point. Their only draw back is the
lack of goals.
They have now only scored one
goal in the last three games and manager Neil Hart is going to
have to bring in another striker if he wants to turn chances
into goals.
