End of
road for Sculpher
08/10/2007
LEE Sculpher insists he took Ramsbottom United "as
far as he could" following his shock managerial
exit.
Sculpher handed in his resignation just minutes
after watching his side beat St Helens Town at the
Riverside on Saturday, which followed a league win
over Bacup seven days earlier.
Prior to that, United had slipped down the Vodkat
League Division One table after a run of results in
which they lost five and drew one.
But while the former Clitheroe boss was under
pressure to lift the Rams up the table, Sculpher
said his decision was borne out of frustration at
not being able to put his stamp on the team.
"It's the fact we've never really had a settled
side, for injuries and unavailable players," said
Sculpher.
"For one thing and another, I could not seem to get
out on the pitch my preferred side. At this moment
in time, I felt I've taken Ramsbottom as far as I
can.
"When I was manager at Clitheroe, we used only 30
players in three seasons.
"Already this season, I've used 27 players and we
are only about six or seven weeks into the season."
He added: "My only regret is that I've been unable
to take this team to the top of the table.
"But it's a fantastic set-up and the structure is
there.
"Whoever comes in next might bring his own players
in, but I'd say the players already there can go on
to achieve some success."
